騎兵の盾

ターゲと呼ばれた優雅な形をしたこれらの騎兵の盾は、ゴシック時代後期にトーナメント(武芸競技会)や軽騎兵隊によって使用されました。この作品は、おそらくフランコニアのゴッツマン家のものと思われる紋章が念入りに描かれています。横に立つ女性は、「ありのままの私を受け入れよ」のモットーが書かれた小旗を持っています。銀地にきらびやかな色彩で施された装飾が驚くほど良い状態で保存されているのは、後年に何層もの塗料で覆われ、何世紀もの間保護されたためです。皮革の裏張りのある裏面には、盾を持つ兵士の加護を願うため、聖クリストファーの小さな肖像が描かれています。
