三美神像

アフロディーテの侍女たち―「アグライア」(美)、「エウプロシュネ」(歓喜)、「タレイア」(豊穣)―が、若い女性の裸像として優雅なフリーズ彫刻の様相で表されています。三美神のこのような表現がどこの誰によって創案されたかは不明ですが、おそらくヘレニズム時代末期に様式化されたと思われます。この構図は古代ローマにおいて最も有名で、多用されたもののひとつとなっており、硬貨から石棺、そしてモザイクに至るまで、あらゆる分野のすべての製品に描かれました。この彫像は当初は庭園または公共浴場に置かれたものと思われます。
