斧の形をした祭具

インドネシア、おそらくスラウェシ

祭具として構想また技術的にも力作であるこの祭具は、吊って叩く道具として使われたことはほぼ間違いありません。つばのある首の部分は、ワニの皮膚の隆起に似た線状模様にひし形模様が組み合わされています。これは吊るための縄を固定する役目を果たしたのかも知れません。裏面には擬人化された顔と螺旋状の帯、そして鋸歯文が施されています。この作品は、100年前にスラウェシ南部で出土し、インドネシア国立博物館にある「マッカサールの斧」と比較しても遜色がないと思われます。
