この絵は、バーヌダッタが15 世紀に書いた愛の詩「ラーサマンジャリ」(歓喜の体験の本質)の挿絵シリーズの1枚です。この詩は、ナヤカ(男性主人公・愛する者)とナイカ(女性主人公・愛される者)の気持ちと心の表現・分類をテーマとしたもので、バラタによる演 劇芸術に関する最初の論文「ナタヤシャストラ」に由来するものです。大胆な色使いとあいまいな遠近感により活気に満ちたこの場面では、チャウパールのゲームでずるをした夫のシヴァにネックレスを巻き上げられたパルヴァティが、夫に懇願している様子です。色と身振りを象徴的に使うのは、この時期のバショーリ派の絵に特有のものです。
