ハリ・ハラ立像

7世紀と8世紀の東南アジア本土のメコン・デルタ地域では、ヴィシュヌ(ハリ)とシヴァ(ハラ)を一体化させた融合神が一般に信仰されたことが、現存する彫刻の作品から分かっています。当時ヒンズー文化を取り入れた地域の支配者にとって、ヒンズー教の二大神をひとつの宗教として統合することには明らかな利点がありました。アンコール時代以前のプラサート・アンデート様式を踏襲するこの宮廷の偶像は、当初表面に豊かな光沢を放っていました。額にある縦の第三の目と、もつれて高く盛られた髪はシヴァ神を表し、円錐形の無装飾のマイタ(被り物)は前アンコール期のヴィシュヌ神の特徴です。
