廉頗と藺相如の伝記(詳細)
詩人、書家、そして学識深い禅僧であった黄庭堅は、書道はのびのびとした「精神の鏡」、すなわち自己を表現するものであるべきと考えていました。1,200字近くが書かれたこの巻物は、草書体による書の最高傑作です。軍功高い将軍の廉頗と、有能な戦略家藺相如とのライバル関係について書き起こしたものですが、「二頭の虎が戦う時、片方が破れなければならない。私の行動は、個人的な確執よりも国の運命を思うためである」という藺相如の言葉で突然終わっています。宋時代の政治的内争を背景として考えると、黄庭堅の党派心に対する力強い非難と捉えられ、1094 年に彼が流刑に処される引き金となりました。
