キリストの降誕
15世紀初頭のフィレンツェの代表的画家で写本彩飾画家だったロレンツォ・モナコは、サンタ・マリア・デッリ・アンジェリ教会のカマルドリ派修道院の修道僧でしたが、修道院外で工房を営むことを許可され、成功を収めました。彼の最も有名な作品のひとつであるこの板絵に見られる非常に繊細で深みのある調和の取れた色彩は、彼の写本彩飾画家としての技能を反映しています。この四つ葉型パネルは元々祭壇画下部の裾絵(プレデッラ)の一部でした。パネルの不規則な形を巧みに利用し、勾配のある小屋の屋根など、構図上の要素が描かれています。
