ヘ長調のアルトリコーダー

ヨハン・ベネディクト・ガーンは1698年にニュルンベルクの木地師組合にマイスターとして認められ、1711年に亡くなるまで自身の工房で楽器製作に専念しました。そのうち、象牙またはツゲを素材とする約16本のレコーダーと、数本のオーボエが現存しています。この作品を含め、彼のレコーダーにはアカンサスの葉と仮面の彫刻で飾られているものがあります。このモチーフはニュルンベルクで作られた楽器に見られるもので、また、著名な木管楽器職人だったヨハン・ヴィルヘルム・オーバーレンダー(父)など、他の職人の作品にも取り入れられています。アルトリコーダーは、1700年代以降に最も好まれるサイズのリコーダーとなりました。象牙は、特に応用がきく異国の素材で、昔から高価な楽器に使われてきました。
