聖人サンバンダール

7 世紀に広く信仰されたサンバンダールは、インド南部の三聖人のひとりです。神話では、ウマ女神から乳(碗で表現)を贈られた後、幼児のサンバンダールは一生を捧げてシヴァ神を称える賛美歌を作りました。持ち上 げた手は、ヒマラヤにあるシヴァの住む聖なるカイラシュ山を指しています。神々や聖人を祭る祭式の行列のために作られたこの像では、聖人の子供らしさが捉えられていると同時に、精神的指導者にふさわしい成熟さと権威をたたえています。
