花嫁衣装

肩から首にかけて緩やかな三角形を描いた胸元のデザインは、首を長く見せることから19世紀全般を通して好まれました。このデザインは1860年代の正装用のガウンの胴衣にも取り入れられ、肩をあらわにしたバトーネックで仕立てられることが一般的でした。肩が露出しているため、コルセットは肩紐がないか、低く斜めにつけられるようになりました。この時期の幅広で釣鐘形のスカートは、その10年前に考案されたクリノリンの張り骨により可能となりました。1860年代中頃までには、張り骨の直径が次第に広くなり、かなりの幅のスカートを支えることができるようになりました。
