Многие поэты и художники пытались передать мимолетность движения волн. За счет длинных, беспорядочно возникающих гребней волн с неожиданными пустотами Огата Корин создает несколько зловещий образ. Работа выполнена в древнекитайской технике рисования двумя кистями, удерживаемыми в одной руке. Образ когтеобразных гребней волн, возможно, был навеян работами художника эпохи Муромати Сессоном Сукэй (ок. 1504–1589 г.). Корин подписался взятым им в 1704 году псевдонимом Досу.
