尾形光琳（日本，1658–1716年）波涛图屏风
许多艺术家和诗人试图捕捉巨浪汹涌时转瞬即逝的画面。尾形光琳的这一版本传达出奇异的险恶感，毋庸置疑是源于那些千疮百孔、长触手状的不规则泡沫。画家运用传统中国画法中一手持两笔的分染手法勾勒出轮廓，屏风中兽爪般的波浪可能直接受到室町时代艺术家雪村周继（约1504 –1589年)的一幅画作的影响。此屏风上还钤有“道崇”字样印章，这是光琳在1704年采用的号。
