A painting depicting General George Washington leading his troops across the Delaware River during the American Revolutionary War. Washington is  at the bow of a wooden boat, wrapped in a dark blue cloak, with the American flag held high. The soldiers, bundled in winter coats, row the boat through icy waters under a dim, cloudy sky.

A white-glazed tea bowl depicting, in brown, an arching bridge on the front and a Shinto shrine on the back. The thick, white glaze on top of brown iron oxide creates the impression of a mist-shrouded landscape. Under the bridge, a fingerprint marks the spot where the potter held the bowl while dipping it into the glaze.
