玄宗避蜀图

745年，唐玄宗（于712 – 56年在位）在励精图治三十三年后爱上了杨贵妃，自此不理朝政。当杨贵妃宠爱的将军安禄山在755年叛乱之时，杨贵妃成为众矢之的。玄宗不得不从首都长安逃往蜀地（四川省）避难，途中哗变的士兵要求他处死自己的爱妃。玄宗不情愿地同意了，他目睹了杨贵妃之死，既恐惧又感到羞耻，不久后即让位。此图描绘的是处死杨贵妃后郁郁前行的皇室随从。尽管画中人物均为唐朝装扮，但背景风格中以错综复杂的手法刻画的立体形态和雾气笼罩的意境却表明作品成于十二世纪中期。
