請欣賞構成這幅夏天風景畫的輕快筆觸：厚厚的顏料，表現強勁的風勢、樹木和
麥田作物隨風擺動的動態，以及下午的熱浪。那種直接的感覺很令人震撼；事實
上，梵高是在現場把這自然景色直接畫下來的。
梵高在一八八八年到達法國南部的時候，被郊外到處可見的柏樹所吸引。他畫了
好幾幅以這種參天大樹為主題的畫，這是其中之一。梵高把柏樹的形態比作埃及
的方尖碑，把柏樹形容為「豔陽之下風景中的一抹黑色」。晴空之下的光線、郊外
明亮的色彩，也吸引了梵高；他一生中大部分時間都住在歐洲北部，天氣比較
惡劣。在寫給弟弟提奧的信裏，他把這幅畫的天空比喻為「蘇格蘭方格布」，又說
這作品是他「最好的」夏日風景畫之一。
