In the series An Array of Flowers, Beauties, and Famous Places, Gekkō combines images of famous places for viewing seasonal flowers in Tokyo with depictions of women dressed in kimonos. These images of women are based on the socially constructed ideal of a good wife and mother of the modern era. Avoiding loud urban locations, Gekkō’s graceful ladies inhabit tranquil and natural landscapes and are meant to conjure feelings of nostalgia.
