Cabinet

Italian, Lombardy

Not on view

Enclosing ten small drawers and a central compartment behind its fall front, this collector’s cabinet was used to store precious objects and personal documents. Its exterior and interior surfaces are richly decorated. The central scene on the front represents the dramatic rescue of Andromeda. Chained to a rock, King Cepheus’ daughter was freed by Perseus, who, wearing flying sandals, wielded his sword to slay the sea monster.
