Elevation for a Paneled Wall in Louis XVI style with Draperies and an Armchair

Anonymous, French, 19th century French

Not on view

This drawing contains a design for a wall decorated in the Louis XVI style. The wall is charactrerized by double doors on either end, and three decorated wall panels at center. The application of watercolor on the textiles in the room suggest that this was the principle focus of the drawing. Draperies cover the door alcove, and an arm chair is placed against the wall upolstered in a similar fabric. The accent color is pink, and the textiles are decorated with floral motifs. The only other color in the drawing is applied to the mouldings which were meant to be gilt. While this design is French in taste, it is unclear whether it originates from that country, or was made elsewhere. The presentation and manner of drawing closely resembles designs from Ogden Codman's workshop, for example.
