Landscape in the Styles of Huang Gongwang and Gao Kegong

Inscription: Artist’s inscription and signature (7 columns in semi-cursive script)

Although Dachi [Huang Gongwang 黃公望, 1269–1354] and Fangshan [Gao Kegong 高克恭, 1248–1310] differ in their artistic lineage, both were descended from Dong Yuan and Juran; one could speak of them being in the same family. When Dong Zongbo [Dong Qichang 董其昌, 1555–1636] painted he often combined their ideas. This painting was created in the same way. Done in haste during travel, however, it failed to capture their spiritual resonance. On a spring day of the yiyou year in the Kangxi reign era [1705] inscribed while traveling by boat to Yufeng.
