Glass Fragment

French

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 304

The Cathedral of Saint-Étienne in Bourges still preserves a distinguished series of stained glass in its chapels. These fragments from some of the destroyed ambulatory windows exemplify the high quality of the original decoration. Note especially the blood red devil, probably from a Last Judgment scene, and the elegant figure of Christ from the Crucifixion.
