Old Kingdom
In the latter part of the Old Kingdom artisans crafted tall, slender stone vases modeled after pottery and metal prototypes. The broad-shouldered vase tapering to a narrow foot is in the form of the traditional hes-vase form from which libations were poured during temple and funerary rituals.
