Osiride Figure

Late Period
594–558 B.C.
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 127
This handsome figure was excavated among burials in reused tombs south of the Step Pyramid. The figure had traces of a pitch or bitumen coating in areas, has an integral tang beneath the feet, and a hole for an attribute on its head: all these features point to its likely having been a figure of Ptah-Sokar Osiris.
