Slab from Chapel of the Reporter of the Vizier Senwosret (right)
Middle Kingdom
Not on view
This object is not part of The Met collection. It was in the Museum for a special exhibition and has been returned to the lender.
This carved and painted slab was part of a small chapel dedicated to an official named Senwosret. It contains a large image of Senwosret observing the activities of his estate, including food production, preparation, and storage. Two boats in the bottom right corner hold mummies, evoking the pilgrimage to Abydos ideally undertaken by the deceased before burial.
