This apocalyptic subject centers on a temple complex collapsing at center as huge bolders fall from the sky near the horizon as a the sun sets and a comet streaking through the heavens at upper left. In the left foreground and a host of figures have fallen to the ground, with others at right reacting to an approaching wave. The composition shares elements with compositions by John Martin.
