Six designs for broocheswith stylized leaves and pearls
Not on view
Six drawings in graphite of designs for brooches, in the style of the French School of the 19th century, designed for the French jewelry company Mellerio-Borgnis. Each drawing was created on a separate sheet of semi-transparent paper, all adhered to the same page of the album. The first design is made up of an oval frame with scrolls, holding interlacing branches with small, stylized leaves and round pearls. The second design is made up of a C-curve motif with brilliants, formed around a largo, round, faceted stone, and framed by a garland of stylized leaves, round, faceted stones, and small, round pearls, and with two hanging strips of round pearls of decreasing diameter. The third design is made up of a bundle of scrolling, stylized leaves, strips of pearls, and branches with round pearls. The fourth design is made up of three, oval oval cartouches, surrounded by garlands of small, stylized leaves and round pearls, and with a ribbon knot on the upper part. The fifth design is made up of a diagonal ring that holds a bundle of interlacing branches with stylized leaves, pearls and strips of round pearls of decreasing sizes. The sixth design is made up of a quatrefoil frame containing a square-cut stone in the center, surrounded by thin scrolls, and by thin scrolling branches with small, stylized leaves and round pearls. The physical jewels from these designs would have likely been manufactured using gold or silver, and probably using brilliants, diamonds, or other (semi-) precious stones to add color and shine to the designs.
