Beauty with Child

China

Not on view

In this charming print, a young boy presents a cicada or a little frog to an elegant lady. The woman’s garment is highlighted with red folds that may have been dabbed on with the use of stencils to simulate painted brushstrokes. Comparable motifs decorate porcelain plates from the Kangxi period (1662–1722).
