Hat and Guitar, Frontispiece for an Edition of Fourteen Etchings

Edouard Manet French

Not on view

Degas acquired an exceptional collection of prints by Manet by exchange with his friend Michel Manzi, who had purchased the lot at the auction of the critic and print connoisseur Philippe Burty. Degas made note of his intention to try to complete the set. The group included rare early states and proofs, such as this impression of his design for a frontispiece that features a dedication in pen and ink to the poet Charles Baudelaire.
