Fortune, June 1937
Publisher Time, Inc.
Fortune magazine made its debut in February of 1930, a mere few months after the stock market crash. Seeking to create a publication that was about business but appealed to those interested in culture, its founder, Henry Luce, hired young, esteemed writers to author critical human-interest articles; photographers such as Margaret Bourke-White and Walker Evans to take pictures for its pages; and illustrators to create remarkable covers referencing travel, industry, the stock market, and other subjects that appealed to the magazine’s affluent readers.
