Kaba Adler Romanian
Not on view
On the cover of this postwar memoir is a tattooed arm silhouetted against an illustration of the Auschwitz concentration camp. It consists of sixteen linocut prints with captions in Hungarian and Romanian, and illustrates the Hungarian painter and graphic artist Kaba Adler’s suffering in Auschwitz following his imprisonment in Mauthausen. Reportedly, Adler survived when an SS officer discovered his talent and asked him to illustrate a book of stories for his daughter in Berlin. After Liberation, Adler returned to his hometown of Satu Mare, Romania, where he published this volume before emigrating to Israel, where he had a successful artistic career.
