Ring

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 463

The flower-shaped bezel of this ring is flanked by two birds resting on scroll brackets. Parrots of this form are popular motifs found on South Indian ornaments, often seen in symmetrical pairs similar to this example. The flat platform of the bezel may have held another bird or three dimensional motif.
