Die Belles Heures (Schönen Stunden), ein privates Gebetbuch, war das erste mehrerer prächtiger Manuskripte, die bei den Gebrüdern Limbourg von Jean de Berry in Auftrag gegeben wurden. Es ist vielleicht das einzige tatsächlich vollständige und stilistisch kongruente Gebetbuch aus der umfangreichen Bibliothek des Herzogs mit seinen 94 ganzseitigen und 54 Spaltenillustrationen. Hier ist das Wunder von Sankt Nikolaus abgebildet, der Seereisende rettet. Unter Verwendung einer phosphoreszierenden Palette hat der Künstler hier runde italienisch beeinflusste Figuren mit einer detaillierten nordischen Naturvision in Einklang gebracht.
