Menat with royal name Ptolemy
Early Ptolemaic Period
The menat is a ritual necklace consisting of multiple strings of beads attached to a counterweight, also called a menat, shaped like a pendulum. The necklace could be worn by the goddess Hathor or by others associated with her. The counterweight alone was a magical symbol of the goddess Hathor, and in the New Kingdom and later, small menats were dedicated to the goddess by kings and visitors to her sanctuaries. The Menat here is inscribed with the name of Ptolemy I or the II, the first kings of their dynasty.
