Book of WPA Work

On View Gallery Watson Library

The WPA, or Works Projects Administration (1935-1943), was an American New Deal agency that employed millions of jobseekers to carry out public works and arts projects. Through its Professional Projects Division, artists were involved in the creation of federal art, music, theater, and writers’ projects. This relief-carved, painted book resembles a leather binding with a blue bookmark. Its purpose and connection to a specific book title are unknown.
