A good luck box with drawer in book form

On View Gallery Watson Library

The first book in this grouping is a tiny silver and enamel bible box made in the style of a half-leather binding. A phrase from Corinthians:13 is engraved in Italian on the interior of the cover: “Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things.” The center box is American, made of wood painted black, gold, and red, with a tortoiseshell pattern; flourishes; and a raised gold horseshoe. Its drawer opens from the spine. The last box is Scottish souvenir ware, titled Nicol’s Works. It is illustrated in penwork with a sailing ship (front) and a castle (back).
