Panel with Animals Flanking a Vase Against a Pattern of Scrolls

Not on view

Elaborate symmetrical designs such as this example may have provided centerpieces for lintels above monumental doorways. A bulbous vase at center is flanked by two animals facing inward. This artifact was used as part of a façade, and the rounded cavity on the bottom left and the embedded iron plug toward the right edge indicated that it was also repurposed.
