夏山図巻

中国では900年から1100年までの間に自然の景観を描いた山水画が多く製作されました。これらの山水画では、鑑賞者が絵画に登場する人物と自分を重ね合わせて見ることが意図されています。「夏山図巻」では、寺院の隠居所へと旅する者が描かれています。中央にある山は、臣下に囲まれた皇帝のように威厳があり、自然の頂点として君臨しているかのようです。高度な墨絵や質感を強調した筆遣いに加え、宋時代の徽宗帝(在位1101–25年)の鑑蔵印があることから、この作品が1050年頃の巨匠の手によるものであることが推察されますが、徽宗帝の目録に屈鼎作「夏景」と題された作品が3点記録されている以外に画家についてはほとんど知られていません。
