アミール・サイフ・アル=ドゥンヤ・ワル= ディン・ムハマド・アル=マワルディの香炉

セルジュク朝時代(1040–1157年頃)には、動物の形をした香炉が人気を博しました。獅子の形をしたこの作品は、その大きさ、表面に刻まれた洗練された装飾、そして胴体に刻まれたアラビア文字の帯に読み取れる情報の豊富さで秀でています。銘には香炉の製作を依頼した後援者(アミール・サイフ・アル=ドゥンヤ・ワル=ディン・ムハマド・アル・マワルディ)と職人の名前だけでなく、製作日も記されています。香炉の頭部は炭と香を入れるために取り外すことができ、胴体と首には香り高い煙が出る孔が開けられています。その大きさから、宮殿で使われたものと思われます。
