世界で最も美しいマジョリカ陶器(精製錫釉陶器)の作例とされているこの鉢は、ローマ教皇の権威の象徴である鍵、ティアラ、そしてローマ教皇ユリウス2世(ジュリアーノ・デッラ・ロベーレ)とその家族を表した樫の木など個人的なシンボルで見事に装飾されています。ユリウスはおそらく、1506年のボローニャに対するバチカンの権威回復を記念し、ボローニャ大使メルキオーレ・ディ・ジョルジオ・メンゾーリ(紋章が左端にある)のためにこれを作らせたと考えられています。また、裏面に名前があるジョヴァンニ・マリア・ヴァザーロは、この作品の絵付け師、またはカステル・ドゥランテの工房の経営者だったと思われます。
