エマウスへの旅と、マグダラのマリアの前に現れたイエスの飾り板

この飾り板は、キリストが復活後に弟子の前に姿を現わしたことを伝える聖書のふたつの物語を表しています。上段ではイスラエルからエマウスへ向かうふたりの使徒が、同伴者をイエスと知らずに受難を嘆くのに対してイエスがその意義を説き、下段はマグダラのマリアが前に現れたイエスを庭師と間違えた場面です。そうと知ったマリアに、イエスはまだ昇天していないので触れてはならないと告げています。巻きついた着衣、引き伸ばされた身体、そして力強く劇的な身振りで表現されているこの飾り板は、おそらく聖遺物箱と考えられる大作の一部でした。サンティアゴ・デ・コンポステーラの大聖堂への巡礼路にあり、王宮のあったレオンで作られた作品の様式との関連性が見られます。
