十字架

この十字架には、両面に100体以上の肖像と、ほぼ同数の銘文が刻まれています。複雑な図案、刻まれている文面、そしていくつかの肖像の衣装から、この作品は修道院のために作られたものであることが分かっています。正面の四角い部分の彫刻は、最上部のキリスト昇天の場面で物語の頂点に達します。裏面には、預言者がそれぞれの予言を刻んだ巻物を持っています。それらはキリストの受難を予言するものと考えられます。他の銘文は、キリスト教とユダヤ教間の神学的な論争を反映しています。議論あるいは激しい非難を目的としたかは別として、この作品は12世紀に起こり始めた反ユダヤ主義の風潮を映し出しています。
