Tomb of Antonio Canova

Medalist: Antonio Fabris Italian

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 554

Canova's monument in the Church of Santa Maria dei Frari in Venice was executed in 1827 by his pupils after his unrealized project for the Tomb of Titian in that same church. Canova himself had adapted the project previously for the mausoleum of the Archduchess Christiana in Vienna.
