约拿与鲸鱼：《史集》中的一页
《古兰经》里提到的约拿和鲸鱼的故事在伊斯兰世界非常流行，常以插图的形式绘入世界史手稿里，比如这一本——其书名翻译过来就是《史集》。但是这幅插图却没有文字搭配，它可能是供人在背诵经文时举起，也可能作为单独展示之用。其庞大的画面、直接的呈现手法和浓墨重彩都受到壁画的影响。此图中，鲸鱼把约拿吐到岸上，一棵弯曲的葫芦藤在他头上伸展并遮住他的头，葫芦藤也出现在西方中世纪对同一主题的描绘中。
