Numbers I-251 in 10 bound volumes. Satirical journal published during the July Monarchy under King Louis Philippe, a period when French government censorship of the press relatively relaxed. The journal chiefly targeted Louis Philippe and his administration. In addition to serving as the journal's director and primary editor, Charles Philipon wrote articles therein, and other authors included Honoré de Balzac and Louis Desnoyers. The primary artistic contributors were Honoré Daumier and Jean Ignace Isidore Gérard Grandville, with some caricatures by Henry Monnier, Alexandre Decamps, Auguste Raffet, Paul Gavarni, Achille Devéria, Auguste Desperret, Eugène Forest, Benjamin Roubaud, and others.
