The Duenna

ca. 1790 (?)
Not on view
An old woman converses with a wizened old man before a colonade. The duenna wears a cape, crucifix and a set of key at her waist. A young woman steps through the doorway behind her. Possibly relates to "The Duenna," a comic opera-play by Richard Brinsley Sheridan first produced in 1775.
