Miniature booklets from the "Directory of Merchants" series (N92), issued in 1889 to promote W. Duke Sons & Co. brand cigarettes. Each directory lists local merchants who accepted discount coupons for Duke brand tobacco products. There are five directories that focus on merchants in the New York City area. There are two varieties of these New York directories- one with the number of the directory printed on the cover (1 through 5), and one variety without the number printed on the cover. The sixth directory lists San Francisco area merchants that honored Duke coupons, with only one version published without a number on the cover. All directories list the series number (1 through 6) on the third page of the booklet. These directories are extremely rare.
