Textile Fragment
Not on view
The appliqué design on this linen textile is executed in a color similar to the base fabric. On one edge, four pointed lappets are suspended from the rectangular fabric by a row of threads. The lappets alternate between two designs. The rectangular section of the fragment is bordered on two sides by a vine scroll and a trefoil motif in the corner. In the center is a quatrefoil rosette surrounded by stylized tendrils. Evidence of a second rosette remains on the top edge, suggesting that the original size of the textile was much larger, two or even four times the size of the surviving piece.
