Copper-Alloy Bracelet

Not on view

This bracelet consists of four medallions linked by a series of circles and rectangles, decorated with concentric circles and triangles. Incised on the medallions are a woman's face, a fish, a boat, and a Greek inscription that has yet to be identified. Images of women like the one seen here are common in early Byzantine art. They were associated with the abundance of the earth and were meant to attract good fortune.
