Scarab Inscribed with the Name Pediastwsir
Late Period
The hieroglyphs on the right form the personal name Pa-di-Ast-Wsir, meaning ‘who is given by Isis and Osiris’. Personal names beginning with Padi combined with the name of a deity are known from the Third Intermediate Period (ca. 1070-664 B.C.) and later. Therefore your name would ensure you had the protection of that god or goddess.
Most common on seal-amulets are the names Padibastet / Pedubaste (who is given by Bastet), Padi-imn (who is given by Amun), Padi-wsir (who is given by Osiris) and Padi-ast (who is given by Isis). It is, however, uncommon to find names combining two deities, as shown on this scarab. Here, the personal name refers to both Osiris and Isis.
