Ten designs for brooches with scrolling motifs and cartouches
Drawing with ten designs for brooches, part of an album of drawings in pen and ink of designs for jewelry in the style of the French School of the 19th century, designed for the French jewelry house Mellerio-Borgnis. Most designs consist of paired ovals framed with scrolls of metals and flanked by crowns on the upper part; others consist of single cartouches of similar character. One design consists of a vase with scrolling, stylized leaves and a fleur-de-list, and another of an egg-shaped, red motif standing over a flat base with scrolls. All the designs are executed simply with graphite, except the one with the red egg motif, which is rendered with lines of red paint, possibly after the original drawing was made.
