Engraving, part of 'Omnium pene Europae, Asiae, Aphricae atque Americae Gentium Habitus' (Costumes of the various nations of Europe, Asia, Africa and America), a series of prints representing figures from various parts of the world, engraved by Abraham de Bruyn and published by Joos de Bosscher in 1580.

This engraving represents a citizen of Clivia in fine dress, a woman from Clivia in solemn dress, a woman from Clivia wearing an overcoat or 'palla', and a girl from Clivia in solemn dress. On the left, the male citizen wears an overcoat with short puff sleeves over a ling-sleeved velvet (?) doublet, wide hose, stockings and flat shoes. His collar is made up of a small ruff, and he wears a thin belt on which he carries a pouch and a knife. He holds his gloves in his right hand, and wears a beret.

On the center-left, the woman in solemn dress wears a long dress with long, wide bell sleeves, trimmed with velvet (?), and an open skirt, trimmed with the same fabric, over a skirt with two stripes on the border. The bodice has a high ruff collar. A jeweled belt hangs from her waist, partially hidden below her hands, which are adorned with several rings. Her hair is tied up and covered by a cap with two strips of fabric hanging to the sides. Her shoes are flat and have rounded toes.

On the center-right, a woman wears a palla, or overcoat, made up of a large cap with pointed front from which hangs a shawl, covering her shoulders and back. Underneath, she is wearing a long dress with open ruff and high collar, velvet (?) on the chest, and a lace-up bodice, and ankle-length skirt with apron. Her shoes are flat, and she carries a bag, hanging from her right hip.

On the right, the young woman wears a dress trimmed with dark ribbons, and with an open skirt with train and ribbons at the back over a shorter skirt with a stripe on the border. Her hair is held up inside a sort of flar bonnet, with a small lace headband on the front. Her shoes are flat and have rounded toes.
